《雅虎體育》專家沃納洛斯基（Adrian Wojnarowski）據消息來源指出，尼克與自由球員中鋒羅賓-洛佩茲（Robin Lopez）達成4年5400萬美元的合約協議，這位上賽季為拓荒者打球的中鋒將來到紐約。
值得一提的是，如果喬丹（DeAndre Jordan）選擇加盟尼克的話，這筆買賣就會流產。而從目前的情況看，最有可能得到喬丹的還是快艇和小牛。
自由球員市場開放後，尼克的交易工作進行得並不順利，之前曾先後招攬阿爾德里奇（LaMarcus Aldridge）、門羅（Greg Monroe）這樣的頂尖內線，但沒有結果。洛佩茲在與尼克會面時表示，他願意與安東尼（Carmelo Anthony）搭檔。
27歲的洛佩茲過去2個賽季在拓荒者的表現可圈可點。儘管他在進攻中的作用有限，但在防守端值得信賴。上季洛佩茲出戰59場季賽，平均上場27.8分鐘交出9.6分6.7籃板1.4阻攻。
職業生涯前7個賽季，洛佩茲相繼效力過太陽、新奧爾良黃蜂和拓荒者。
